What's going on at BikingIllinois.com this week?

This week visitors to BikingIllinois.com have doubled for no apparent reason. All I can tell from my SiteAnalytics data is that people are going to the homepage, most likely directly instead of through a search engine or other web page (maybe clicking on a link sent via e-mail?). Then according to Feedjit they are clicking on the link to my blog for "Past Events and Other Biking Illinois-related News" (which takes them to the page for posts labeled "Biking Illinois"). Feedjit also says they are coming from all over the world (four five continents).

This is quite intriguing to me. I am baffled as to why the world is suddenly taking an interest in Biking Illinois, and especially why everyone is coming to my blog from there (hardly anyone did so in the past).

If you came here that way, please leave a comment to explain.

I got here because I am applying for a job as a search engine evaluator, and Biking Illinois was part of one of the tasks on the test.

Yeh, same as the preceding comment. Think that is the case for most of ur recent visitors. Sorry man...

^Same.

Thank you all for explaining! I was really perplexed by the sudden worldwide attention, especially since my book came out almost 7 years ago.

Btw no need to apologize. I have plenty of bandwidth to spare. Enjoy your visit, and good luck.

Ditto. Love it though, love all the pictures. I will probably never visit Illinois (being from a whole different part of the world), but I can feel your love for biking and for nature, and I like that.

I'm in the same situation as the fellows above. I'm from Romania. I've had in mind to do a trip with the bycicle in my country last year, after I saw The Tour of France, but gave up on the idea.

Hi there :) I'm here for the same reason as the others. I think your site is great and I love how you're taking pictures along the trail. I am in SW USA, so these kinds of sites are really nice to look at.

Thank you! :)

Hi, Jason from Georgia here.

Working on getting a job just the same as the others above. I saw your post below about not updating your book and not having a second edition coming out. I got a little sad to be honest because I'm an aspiring author (though I don't feel I'm very good). I would like to suggest that maybe you look into publishing your book as an ebook. It's not expensive and your readers who have smartphones could take your book with them. I have a Galaxy SIII and my wife has an iPhone and we're always using them to read in Dr's office's and what not. I don't bike, but I see runners using smart phones to log their runs all the time, so why not use it for a biking guide?
Just an idea, because dead dreams make me sad.

Best of luck,

Jason

Hi, Jason. Thanks for the suggestion. The main reason I decided not to update my book is that I'm not as enthusiastic about bicycling as I once was. It's not really sad; I'm just moving on to other things. By the way, as a Georgian you may enjoy reading about my cross-country bike tour, which began near Savannah.

Same here. Evaluating from Brazil. Then typed reputation bikingillinois.com and takes to your website.

Wish you had updated it though... the stale info forces a low rating. :-( If not for that everything for the website is great.

I'm also evaluating from Kansas City! But I was excited to see this page because I love a good bike ride, and Illinois isn't that far from here! I've done the Katy Trail here in MO a few times, but now I'm inspired to perhaps take my next trip out of state!
